Here is what each course holds and who it is for. Each group links to its own page with more detail.
Main courses for Class 7 learners
Every main course starts with 15 hours of theory, in a classroom or online, as you choose. You finish the theory before your in-car lessons start. Then the course sets your hours on the road.
- Standard Course, 10 hours of driving, with classroom or online theory. This meets the minimum driving hours for the Alberta driver education certificate (U-certificate).
- More Road Time, 14 hours of driving, with classroom or online theory. Extra practice before your test.
To earn the U-certificate, you need 80% in the classroom course and 75% in your driving lessons. Read more on the Full Course page.
Alberta Licence Upgrade
This course is for drivers working toward a non-GDL Class 5 licence, such as someone licensed in another province or country. It gives you 6 hours with a certified instructor. You pick one of two options, named Classroom and Online, and both are offered to Class 5 non-GDL drivers only. See the Alberta Licence Upgrade page.
Defensive Driving Course
The DDC is an Alberta defensive driving course on spotting hazards and leaving room to react. In Alberta, some approved defensive driving courses can count toward demerit points, so ask the office whether this one does. See the Defensive Driving Course page.
